Please visit newfolk.org once in a while.  Although the New Folk Collective no longer exists, the website goes on.  NewFolk.Org is used to offer other services, such as an announcement list to get the word out about upcoming shows we think would interest its members, such as the one below.

Dear Friends:

Even though NFC dissolved late in 2008, I have kept this domain alive for a couple of reasons.  First, it provides a place to let people look for information about Minnesota folk and acoustic music events.  Second, I also kept
the New Folk Collective Announcements e-mail list alive, just in case an event which might be of interest to you comes up.  We've already used it to announce Bill Staines and Gordon Bok shows.

I'll keep the list going, since there are almost 500 people currently subscribed. You are of course always free to unsubscribe, but I hope you'll stay. There is no good way to spread the word about acoustic music in the Twin Cities, and maybe this will be the legacy of the New Folk Collective.

I would expect to send a message rarely, and once again, only because there is an event I think would interest our faithful NFC folks.

Please be assured that I am protecting the list, and it will not be passed along to others. The only way it can be used is through me as moderator. Since I was the webkeeper and listkeeper for NFC, I hope you'll trust me to keep this list going.

Of course, I welcome any new subscribers, and the method for subscription is the same as before.  Just Click the link or Join Now! box below and follow the directions.

Thanks.

Fall 2008

Dear Supporters:

We're sad to inform you that Fall 2008 was the last season for the NFC, and it has been dissolved as a formal organization.  A variety of factors, including the declining economy, smaller audiences, and dwindling numbers of volunteers to keep this all-volunteer organization in operation, made us realize that the New Folk Collective should be dissolved

It has been our great honor and pleasure to present many wonderful performers to the Twin Cities audience.  We have managed to do this for well over 20 years, and we could not have done so without the loyal support of our wonderful audiences.

Thanks for everything.

The New Folk Collective

Music Links

Be sure to verify any information you might find through these links.  There is a larger list of these and other links -- see the menu at left.

Homestead Pickin' Parlor
The nice folks at Homestead in Richfield sold tickets for us, promoted our concerts, and also carry the music of the artists we presented.  A center for bluegrass, folk, blues and other acoustic music in the Twin Cities.

FolkBlues.Com
Offers lists of selected artist sites, some music theory, music camp listings, some Minnesota music events, links to instrument makers and sellers, a few instructional resources, song links and more.

Gatherings
Acoustic music festivals, camps, and workshops all over the world.

Armadillo Sound and Design
Doug Lohman has provided terrific sound reinforcement (equipment and mixing skills to allow you to actually hear the performer) for many NFC concerts.  He's also just an all around good guy -- and a bass player.

Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association
MBOTMA is the premier organization of its type in this region, sponsoring frequent jams, concerts and festivals, the most prominent being the annual Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival, held each August.

Cedar Cultural Center
Located in the old Cedar movie theater near Cedar and Riverside on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota, the Cedar is the other primary presenter of folk music in the Twin Cities.  It has the advantage of a permanent home and a paid director, unlike many other nonprofits which promote music.

Gingko Coffehouse
Located on Snelling Avenue just south of Hamline University in St. Paul MN.  This little  coffeehouse has a nice "neighborhood" feeling to it.  A small schedule of local and touring acoustic musicians can be heard here, presented by people who care about the music.

Dulono's Pizza
This is THE place to hear Live bluegrass, old-time and acoustic music every weekend.  Located at 607 W. Lake Street, Minneapolis, just a block east of Lyndale.
