New Folk Collective
A Brief History
New Folk Collective was formed in the latter part of the 1980's,
after a wonderful folk music venue closed in Minneapolis -- the
legendary Coffeehouse Extempore. Some folks who had
volunteered at Extempore were determined to keep bringing touring
folk musicians to the Twin Cities, and so they organized, without a
building, funding or any of the other accoutrements of a real
business, to continue that mission.
They managed to survive for a worthy
20 years, over the years sponsoring a remarkable array of concerts.
In Fall 2008, having struggled to continue, and with declining
attendance at shows, NFC decided to stop its work. This web
site preserves some of what was accomplished.
Past Performers
Here are some of the wonderful performers we've had the privilege of
presenting to Minnesota audiences. Links are to the artists'
web sites, if they have them. See them if you can!!
