VIDEO PREMIERE: Chicks With Dip "Talkin' 'Bout A Revolution/Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)"

The songwriters's collective Chicks With Dip originated in New York City and first made a splash with their tribute to Joni Mitchell's Blue album. It now includes women throughout the United States and Canada.

They have just released this video, a mashup of two iconic anthems, Tracy Chapman's "Talkin' 'Bout a Revolution" and Melanie's "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain),” meant as a generational reflection on our paradoxical times. The project underscores the urgent need for change while embracing the hope for peace.

Arranger/producer/mixing engineer Katherine Etzel says, "I had the idea for this mashup in the early spring but it took me all summer to get it together with the Chicks. (Lots of sheep to herd.) The idea for the project reflected conflicting emotions--my sadness and even anger related to all the hatred, deception and harmful rhetoric I see in the US (and the world) co-existing with my hope for a peaceful future. I purposely wanted to use songs written by women and these two fit nicely, especially since we lost Melanie this past January."

The list of the 10 women involved and the credits can be found below the video. The New Folk Initiative is delighted to give it an exclusive premiere.
