Sunday Supper: 04/05/20
T. S. Eliot called April "the cruelest month," and that's certainly true as we reel from the victims of this plague. This week's "Sunday Supper" hopes to provide a respite with the healing power of music. The highlight will be a session recorded in Studio A with The Mastersons, a husband-and-wife duo who have been mainstays of Steve Earle's backing band, The Dukes, but have just released their fourth album, No Time for Love Songs. In spite of the title, the album is actually full of much-needed compassion.
Also on the "Supper" menu this week are new releases by Annette Wasilik, Letitia VanSant, David Myles, and, especially, James Taylor. American Standard, a collaboration with John Pizzarelli, contains songs J.T. loved as boy in his parents' house. As it happens, Monday is Pizzarelli's 60th birthday, so we'll give the talented guiarist and singer a shout out (and though the show was already recorded, condolences on the passing of his father, the legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli).
Like chicken soup for the soul, "Sunday Supper" airs 5-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app, or your ever-sensitive smart speaker.
