Sunday Supper: 06/07/20

“You've Got to Be Carefully Taught," Oscar Hammerstein wrote in South Pacific back in 1949, and those words resonate more than ever right now. James Taylor's sensitive version finds a place in this week's "Sunday Supper," along with other songs of compassion and commitment by the Staples Singers, Bob Marley, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Nina Simone, and Judy Collins (who's released a new version of "Amazing Grace" with a star-studded global virtual choir).

I'll also make time for new releases from New Yorkers Willie Nile, James Maddock, and the trio VickiKristinaBarcelona, who do a whole album of Tom Waits covers. Last, but hardly least, I'll have a preview of the first-ever virtual On Your Radar with Grant Peeples, Pi Jacobs, and Corey Laitman, which will livestream on Tuesday night on Facebook Live and YouTube.

Find meaning in the music, and maybe magic, too, from 5-6 p.m. at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, in the WFUV app, or the socially-conscious smart speaker of your choice.
