Sunday Supper: 11/07/21
This Sunday is Joni Mitchell's 78th birthday and "Sunday Supper" is not about to ignore that! I'll be playing an unreleased track from the new 5-CD boxed set Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 2 (The Reprise Years 1968-1971). It's a song called "Hunter," which was cut from the Blue album at the last minute. I'll match that with a couple of Blue covers, by Lilli Lewis and The Blessed Unrest (even as we hope that someday Brandi Carlile will do a recording of the Blue tribute she performed last night at Carnegie Hall).
I'll share several unconventional covers, by Jake Shimabukuro, The Barefoot Movement, and The New Students. The latter group will be part, along with Rachel Garlin and Christine Sweeney, of "On Your Radar" on Tuesday night at Rockwood Music Hall. Also listen for new music from Avi Wisnia, Dustbowl Revival, and Jack's Waterfall, plus favorites by Eva Cassidy, Joan Osborne, and David Byrne (from the unforgettable America Utopia on Broadway cast recording).
Enjoy a small case of Joni and more from 5-6 p.m. at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org. And if the time change screws you up, you can always catch the show on demand in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app, or the time-sensitive smart speaker of your choice.
