Sunday Supper: 05/16/21
Marvin Gaye released the legendary "What's Going On" album on May 21, 1971, and it resonates more than ever today. "Sunday Supper" will honor the 50th anniversary this week with a couple of covers, including Tom Prasada-Rao's heartfelt rendition of the title track and Sloan Wainwright's "Mercy Me (The Ecology)." We'll tease two other classic 1971 albums with covers by Alice Howe and Sturgill Simpson, while admiring covers of Leonard Cohen by First Aid Kit and The Youngbloods by Gathering Time.
Not everything will be looking backward, though. Listen for new songs by Carsie Blanton, Crys Matthews, The Accidentals, Amy Speace, and Jefferson Berry (with a timely tune to celebrate the easing of the pandemic).
"Sunday Supper" will try to bring some lovin' here today between 5-6 p.m. ET at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app or the merciful smart speaker of your choice.
