Sunday Supper: 10/02/22

This week's "Sunday Supper" opens with odes to October by U2 and Wendy Colonna, then segues into a medley of Woody Guthrie songs by Tom Chapin, The Klezmatics, and Scott Wolfson & Other Heroes to honor the 55th anniversary of Woody's passing. We lost Dr. John three years ago to a heart attack, but before he died, he'd begun work on a project he was passionate about: recording a country album. Now Things Happen That Way has been posthumously released, with vocal support from Willie Nelson, Lukas Nelson, and Aaron Neville, whose track we'll hear this week. (See my 2006 session with the good doctor in the WFUV Archives.)

Other highlights include a toast to Gillian Welch on her 55th birthday (including a Valerie June cover), songs by Jimmy Webb, Peggy Lee, and Leonard Cohen, and a shout out to jazz master Pharoah Sanders, who passed last weekend.

The musical smorgasbord is served from 5-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM and streaming online, on demand in the WFUV Weekend Archives
