Sunday Supper: 11/22/20
Even before the pandemic, Nashville had to endure a vicious tornado, which ripped the roof off Gillian Welch and David Rawlings' home studio. They desperately braved the wind and rain to salvage the contents, which included some demo tapes they made almost 20 years ago for a songwriting publisher. Listening to them again now, they found they held up well, and so they decided to release all 48 in three volumes. This week on "Sunday Supper" we'll hear "Beautiful Boy" from Boots No. 2: The Lost Songs, Vol. 2.
We'll make room for another track from Bruce Springsteen's Letter to You, as well as new releases by Raye Zaragoza, Suzanne Vega, Diana Jones, and Josie Bello. It's Thanksgiving week, of course, even if we're all foregoing some traditions. One tradition was Arlo Guthrie's annual post-Thanksgiving concert at Carnegie Hall. He's announced that he's giving up touring, but he's released a beautiful new version of "Hard Times Come Again No More," which is all too appropriate for the moment.
"Sunday Supper" will be stuffed like a fat turkey from 5-6 p.m. EST at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime you find the time in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app or the diet-conscious smart speaker of your choice.
