Sunday Supper: 12/20/20

Join me this week for my favorite show of the year: the "Sunday Supper" Annual Festival of Holiday Songs. My mail and email inbox was so inundated this year that all the selections are from new releases - some of them traditional carols, some holiday standards, and some original songs written for this particular Christmas.

While the Tony-winning musical Hadestown remains in lockdown, the cast has recorded a holiday album, If the Fates Allow, and we'll hear one of the highlights, Broadway legend Andre DeShields, singing "Blue Christmas." Another Broadway star, Leslie Odom, Jr., contributes "Little Drummer Boy" from his new one, The Christmas Album, and Karla Bonoff, RUNA, the Bird and the Bee, Storyhill, and Josh Rouse are among the others covering old favorites. Barnaby Bright and The Sea The Sea lend some harmony from married musical couples, while Ellis Delaney, Lennie Gallant, and Mark Erelli provide some musical light for this uncertain time.

Hopefully, you'll find comfort and even some joy between 5-6 p.m. EST today or, if that's not possible, on demand in the WFUV  Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app, or the seasonal smart speaker of your choice.
