Sunday Supper: 06/27/21
Two years ago a quartet of Black banjo-playing women formed a remarkable collaboration as Our Native Daughters. Of the four, Rhiannon Giddens was the best known at the time, but this spring, two others have really come into their own: Allison Russell, with her starkly revealing Outside Child album, and now Amythyst Kiah, confronting her own personal demons on Wary + Strange. I'll have music from all three on this week's "Sunday Supper."
Some other talented women are on the playlist - Paula Cole (whose American Quilt is the spotlight album for June), Zoe Fitzgerald Carter, and Kate McDonnell - as well as new releases from Marc Black, Bob Bradshaw, and the married musical couple Our Band (a.k.a. Sasha Papernik and Justin Poindexter). We'll flesh things out with old faves Buskin & Batteau, Fred Neil, Chris Isaak, and Roxy Music.
Enjoy the Great Reopening from 5-6 p.m. ET at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org, or on demand in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV or the mask-free smart speaker of your choice.
