Sunday Supper: 07/25/21

Anytime Jackson Browne releases a new album, my ears perk up, and Downhill from Everywhere doesn't disappoint. Now a grandfather(!), he can look at the world and his own life with renewed wisdom and empathy. I'll give you a taste on this week's "Sunday Supper" and have new music from other veteran songwriters: Keb' Mo', Kate Taylor, and the iconic Canadian Murray McLachlan (viewing the U.S. as a dysfunctional family). And a trio of songwriters, Diana Jones, Guy Davis, and Jesse Palidofsky, address our immigration dilemmas.

A true eminence griseTom Rush, who introduced us to the music of Jackson Browne and Murray McLachlan, will get some airplay, along with Vance Gilbert, as headliners of Saturday's one-day hybrid Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I'll remember Martin Swinger, a gentle folksinger who passed this month, and make time for Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams, and The Levins.

How does he do all that in an hour? You'll have to listen between 5-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app or the always-obliging smart speaker of your choice.
