Sunday Supper: 08/01/21
A true American treasure, Tony Bennett, turns 95, believe it not, on Tuesday. Although his mind may be going, thanks to Alzheimer's Disease, like Glen Campbell, his voice remains strong. Ever indefatigable, he plans concerts with Lady Gaga on Tuesday and Thursday at Radio City Music Hall. The "Sunday Supper" will salute this son of Astoria this week - and his dedication to the Great American Songbook. (Also listen to my 2002 interview with him in the FUV Vault.)
This week's show also boasts covers from Chrissie Hynde, David Crosby, Bob Malone, and the Blessed Unrest (a.k.a The Joni Project), and new music from Grace Pettis, Friction Farm, Laura Love, and Robin & Linda Williams, plus a tip of the hat to the 50th anniversary of George Harrison and the Concert for Bangladesh.
The best is yet to come from 5-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org, or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app or the ageless smart speaker of your choice.
