Sunday Supper: 01/23/22

"Sunday Supper" is excited to share a track from the new Punch Brothers album, Hell on Church Street, on this week's show. It's a reimagining of the landmark 1983 album, Church Street Blues, by the late guitarist Tony Rice, which featured songs by both bluegrass and folk icons. We'll listen to their take on a Gordon Lightfoot classic, then follow it with other Lightfoot covers by Brooksie Wells and Maura Kennedy.

Another creative string band, Buffalo Rose, contributes a co-write with Tom Paxton, while Keb' Mo' and The Lumineers offer new releases. We'll conclude with toasts to a pair of songwriting giants: Warren Zevon, who would've turned 75 tomorrow, and Stephen Sondheim, whose great score for Company has been revived on Broadway.

That's a lot to cram into one hour, 5-6 p.m. EST at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org, but if you need more time, it's always on demand in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app, or the vacuum-packed smart speaker of your choice.
