Sunday Supper: 08/28/22
Allison Russell, whom I first heard as part of Birds of Chicago back in 2014, is now enjoying a meteoric year. For starters, she won a couple of Juno Awards from her native Canada, is nominated for three Americana Music Awards, performed at the Grammies (where she received two nominations), and was seen prominently behind Brandi Carlile during Joni Mitchell's historic set at Newport. Now she and Brandi are teaming up with the string duo Sista Strings on a new single, "You're Not Alone." Listen for it on this week's "Sunday Supper."
Sista Strings also collaborated with Peter Mulvey on his new album, Love Is the Only Thing. One of the songs from it, "Early Summer of '21," is featured in a medley of summer songs by John Prine, Loudon Wainwright, Stevie Wonder, and Adler & Hesrne. I'll also have new music from Amy Ray, Windborne, and Joe Jencks, along with favorites from The Eagles, Mavis Staples, and the original cast recording of Into the Woods (now enjoying a stunning revival on Broadway).
Hold on to summer from 5-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or on-demand in the Weekend Archives, on the FUV app, or the late-summer smart speaker of your choice.
