Sunday Supper: 08/23/20

This week's "Sunday Supper" has some tasty covered dishes on the menu. There's Molly Tuttle's new album, ...but I'd rather be with you. While recovering from devastating tornadoes and the pandemic, the Nashville-based guitarist decided to record some of her favorite covers at home. It turned out to be an eclectic collection, ranging from the Cat Stevens to Rancid to the Grateful Dead. The Long Island trio Gathering Time have released an album of folk-rock covers called Old Friends, which includes such staples as The Byrds, CSNY, and, yes, the good old Grateful Dead.  And then there's Emma Swift. In tackling the Bob Dylan catalogue on Blonde on the Tracks, she goes beyond the classics to include "I Contain Multitudes" from his new album.

If you've got a hankering for jazz and pop from '20s and '30s, you should listen for Samoa Wilson with the Jim Kweskin Band and Loudon Wainwright with Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks. And we won't neglect some originals from Kris Delmhorst and Shemekia Copeland.

Whatever your taste, the "Sunday Supper" has you covered from 5-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM or wfuv.org or anytime you want in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app or the well-balanced smart speaker of your choice.
