Sunday Supper: 02/14/21
If there was ever a time we could use Valentine's Day, it's this year. This week's "Sunday Supper" is happy to oblige with valentines, funny and otherwise, from Chet Baker, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, and a pair of Earles, Steve and Justin Townes. Mardi Gras, which follows on Tuesday, is destined to be a different kind of celebration this year, but "Sunday Supper" can supply a little NOLA-centric music, if not some beads. Jon Batiste, among the long line of great New Orleans pianists, has a danceable song, "I Need You," from his forthcoming album, We Are, and A. J. Croce tips his hat to the master, Allen Toussaint, with a version of "Brickyard Blues" on his new album of covers, By Request.
With Ash Wednesday following Mardi Gras, we'll sprinkle some ashes on our music, with songs by Kathleen Edwards, Happy Rhodes, and Pearls Before Swine. We'll have family-friendly music from The Bright Siders (formed by Kristin Andreassen and child psychiatrist Dr. Kari Grof ) and Hallie's Comet (a project inspired by the life of a remarkable 11-year-old girl) and wrap things up with farewells from Rupert Wates and Jackson Browne.
Music for every occasion from 5-6 p.m. EST at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the Weekend Archives, on the WFUV or the chocolate-loving smart speaker of your choice.
