Sunday Supper: 02/21/21

This week's "Sunday Supper" will honor two icons who shared a birthday and a commitment to social justice, Nina Simone and John LewisCrys Matthews composed "Call Them In" for Lewis as the "epitome of a Changemaker," while Len Seligman was inspired by a pilgrimage to the Edmund Pettus Bridge to write "Our Turn Now."

Reggie Harris, feeling privileged to be "standing in the shoes of elders like Dr. King, Fanny Lou Hamer, Ella Baker, and U.S. Rep. John Lewis," issues a stirring call to action, "It's Who We Are." In the same spirit, Emma's Revolution (with vocal help help from Reggie) proclaims "Our People Gonna Rise," and Roberta Flack revives an unreleased 50-year-old cover of "What's Going On."

Anne Hills remembers her friend and collaborator, the late Michael Smith, on "Hello, My Love, Goodbye," while another great songwriter who died last year, David Olney, offers "My Favorite Goodbye" on his posthumous album with Anana King, Whispers and Sighs. In the time we have left, I toast another giant who recently passed, jazz pianist Chick Corea.

Music for your heart and soul today from 5-6 p.m. EST at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archves, on the WFUV app, or your socially socially conscious smart speaker.
