Sunday Supper: 03/14/21

This week's "Sunday Supper" has a little international flair. Rhiannon Giddens has just released a new single, "Waterbound," which she recorded in Ireland with her partner, the Italian musician Francesco Turisi. Meanwhile, her soul mate from Our Native Daughters, Allison Russell, has recorded a cover of "Landslide" in French.

Not to be outdone, Alisa Amador and Jose Gonzalez, who are also bilingual, oblige with songs in Spanish. We'll also check out new releases from Dani Larkin, who's Irish, Karen Matheson of the Scottish group, Capercaillie, and the Americana band, The Burnt Pines, which is actually part American, part Portugese!

Closer to home, Cole Quest and The City Pickers, a tight NYC bluegrass band led by Woody Guthrie's grandson, will offer a radio premiere of "Way Over Yonder in a Minor Key," which Billy Bragg originally recorded on Mermaid Avenue, the album motivated by Cole's mother, Nora Guthrie. Ex-Broolynites David and Adam Moss, the identical twins known as The Brother Brothers, have a tasty new track, and singer-songwriters Sunny War (from L.A.) and Rod Abernethy (from N.C.) supply food for thought in a post-Covid world.

The days are getting longer, thanks to Daylight Savings Time, but the show remains an hour whenever it airs - from 5-6 p.m. ET or anytime in the WFUV Weekend Archives, on the WFUV app or the worldly smart speaker of your choice.
