Sunday Supper: 07/30/23
With Tony Bennett's passing, we lost an irreplaceable treasure, who kept alive the American popular songbook for generations of listeners. On this week's "Sunday Supper," just four days before his 97th birth anniversary, I'll rebroadcast an extensive conversation I was privileged to have with Tony in 2002, after the release of Playing With My Friends: Bennett Sings the Blues. We talked about the artists who inspired him, the cities he loved, and what kept him going (as it turns out for nearly 20 years more).
The other half of the program will include new music from Eliza Gilkyson and Lori McKenna and toasts to Mick Jagger (who just turned 80) and Steve Goodman (who would've turned 75 last week).
The melody lingers on from 4-6 p.m. EDT at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org, as well as on-demand in the WFUV Archives, on the WFUV app, or the timeless smart speaker of your choice.
